Target Data Breach

Friday, December 20th, 2013

The Independent Farmers Bank is committed to your credit and debit card security. The Independent Farmers Bank utilizes the FICO® Falcon® Fraud Manager through our partnership with SHAZAM. Falcon® is designed to catch card-presented counterfeit fraud resulting from a data breach. Many of you may have already received a call from SHAZAM inquiring about suspicious usage of your credit or debit card. In conjunction, the Independent Farmers Bank is also monitoring SHAZAM for new lists of additional affected cards. Customers whose cards are on the list are being called, the cards are being "hot carded" so as to prevent any further compromise, and new cards are being issued.

According to a notice on Target's website (See Article) , the stolen data includes customer names, credit and debit card numbers, card expiration dates, and the three-digit security codes (CVV/CVC codes) located on the magnetic stripe of the cards. This information allows the fraudsters to produce a counterfeit card to be used for card-present, swiped transactions. The data breach did not affect online purchases. The PINs are also not at risk.
